Bay Community Support Services (Bay-CSS) is a leader of services to people with disabilities throughout Central and Southern Maryland. Calvert Hospice provides compassionate care and comfort to enable dying patients to live their last days in peace and comfort, with dignity and respect. Hospice neither shortens nor extends life, but aims to enhance the quality of life to the end. We do this through a comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach to meeting the needs of the patient and family. To carry out this mission, we have taken on managing a vital grant-making program and are spearheading a critical study of the economic impact of the county's nonprofit sector. Other programs are on the drawing board. The Trust was incorporated as a Maryland not-for-profit organization in June 2016. Christmas in April Charles County is the volunteer organization started in 1990 that, in partnership with the community, rehabilitates the houses of low-income homeowners, elderly and disabled, so that they may continue to live in warmth, safety and independence. After months of planning and preparation, Christmas in April culminates in a National Rebuilding Day on the last Saturday in April. Last year 1,051 volunteers of all ages, faiths and walks of life come together to help neighbors in the American barnraising tradition.

We are a 501(c)(3) tax exempt, autonomous, public charity created by and for the people of Southern Maryland. We are made up of endowed or non-endowed charitable funds from many donors which are used to address local needs.

Donors create charitable funds with us in lieu of creating a private foundation; to memorialize a loved one; as their corporation's philanthropic arm; to support the entire community; to establish a scholarship; to support their church; to create a giving circle; to receive a tax deduction; or to make sure their earned money is going to local needs. Grants and scholarships from a donor's fund are awarded in the name of their fund and will always be remembered and linked to good works in our community.

In 2003, Co-founder and Director, Andie McConnell lived down the street from a family whose child had survived brain cancer. The family shared the struggles of facing a crisis of this kind and how alone they felt over the course of their child's treatment. This conversation stuck with Andie and when, 6 years later, she learned that the daughter of an acquaintance was diagnosed with brain cancer, she felt compelled to help this woman and her family. Over time, the mom and Andie became friends giving insight into the life of a family facing pediatric cancer; the change in routine and finances, the struggles, the worries, the difficulty of keeping up with everyday life and the heartache. Seeing this made her want to do more for these mothers and fathers as they faced the unthinkable. In 2011, Andie and professional photographer, Stephanie Johnson joined forces and began what is known as Fairy Godmother Project. Today, along with numerous volunteers, FGP provides services to families in Fredericksburg and Richmond, VA and in Southern Maryland.

Our mission is to ease the burden of everyday life for local families who have a child in treatment for a form of pediatric cancer.
