American Red Cross services include blood collection, support to veterans & military families, and disaster service. The organization conducts classes in water safety, first aid, CPR and HIV/AIDS education. Christmas in April Charles County is the volunteer organization started in 1990 that, in partnership with the community, rehabilitates the houses of low-income homeowners, elderly and disabled, so that they may continue to live in warmth, safety and independence. After months of planning and preparation, Christmas in April culminates in a National Rebuilding Day on the last Saturday in April. Last year 1,051 volunteers of all ages, faiths and walks of life come together to help neighbors in the American barnraising tradition.

Habitat for Humanity in Charles County, Maryland is a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, nondenominational, ecumenical Christian housing organization. Habitat for Humanity builds and renovates houses in partnership with volunteers and families in need, regardless of their ethnic or religious background. The houses then are sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charged.
Volunteers provide most of the labor, and individual, church, and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses. Partner families themselves invest hundreds of hours of labor - 'sweat equity' - into building their homes and the homes of others. Their mortgage payments go into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is used to build more houses.
