Show Your Appreciation for St. Mary's Civil War Heritage on Park Day
Point Lookout State Park, March 28, 2015, 8:30AM

As our nation commemorates the sesquicentennial of the American Civil War, volunteers across the country will once again answer their nationís call to service. History buffs, community leaders and preservationists will team up with the Civil War Trust and several other organizations at more than 98 historic sites across the country to participate in the 18th annual Park Day. Since its inception in 1996, Park Day has attracted volunteers of all ages and abilities bound by their dedication to serving their communities. In 2014, nearly 9,000 volunteers at 104 sites across the country donated more than 35,000 service hours. In St. Maryís County, neighbors are encouraged to participate by helping The Friends of Point Lookout at Civil War sites at Point Lookout State Park. Needs range from general upkeep, fort building restoration, and projects in the historic prison pen area. Refreshments will be provided. Click Here for More Information!

Spend the Day in Leonardtown!
Leonardtown has been described in many ways; small town charm, quaint, tranquil with historic roots. One of the best surprises is the hidden upscale draws. More than once described as a cross between Mayberry and Annapolis! With over 300 years of history there are plenty of historical sites to visit. But there is plenty more to do from outdoor life to shopping and dining. The downtown square, one of the few remaining intact in Maryland today, is a beautiful gathering place for residents and visitors. Whether it is for one of the numerous public events held annually there or just a quiet stroll along the brick paved sidewalks.
