The Humane Society of Calvert County (HSCC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing humane education and care for domestic pets. Through volunteer foster homes and a "no-kill" shelter, HSCC rescues hundreds of dogs and cats (young and old) each year. After attending to any health care needs, including spay/neuter, HSCC staff and volunteers work one-on-one with each animal to get to know the animal's personality and to find a suitable adoptive home.
If you are interested in volunteering, please contact us by email or phone. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age (ages 10-18 must be accompanied by an adult.)

Second Hope Rescue, Inc. is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and placement of harder to place dogs, be it due to breed bias, undesirable behavior or age. Though much of our focus is on harder to place dogs, we also rescue, rehabilitate and place any other dogs or cats that need our assistance. Accepting any Bird needing to be rehomed. I have been rescuing birds for 5 years. I find new homes for them. I visit each new owner to make sure they understand the responsibility of owning a bird -- what they need, how to care for them, and how to keep their cages clean, and most of all how to keep them from getting bored or aggressive.

The Southern Maryland Marine Aquarium Society (SMMAS) is a friendly gathering of folks from all walks of life that share an interest in Marine Aquariums. It doesn’t matter if you are a beginner or an expert, we welcome everyone. We have monthly meetings to exchange ideas, discuss current conditions in member’s tanks, share and trade corals, and plan field trips. Our goal is to educate ourselves as well as the general public about the saltwater aquarium hobby and to raise awareness of the delicate reefs we take care of, in and out of our aquariums. SMMAS membership is easy -- $20 per individual or $30 per family.

Our club was founded to enable equestrians in Southern Maryland and the surrounding areas the opportunity to enjoy the trail riding experience. We are non-competitive, and riders can ride the trails at their own pace, with faster riders starting out in front and slower riders at the rear. Trails are always marked, and novice horses and novice riders are welcome to ride with the more experienced riders. Our members are there to offer assistance if needed. We host monthly rides and an overnight/weekend ride held in August. We also host two fun filled General Meetings per year, one at the start of the year to welcome in new board members and one in July. Each ride ends with a gathering of friends over great food!
