Since its founding in 1990, the Orphaned Wildlife Rescue Center (OWRC) has helped rescue over 20,000 animals. Located on R.G. (Doc) Wexler's three-acre home, the Center rescues all animals — from mice to deer to porpoises. OWRC operates under a strict "no-kill" policy and will help any animal. The public and local veterinarians refer forty to sixty percent of the animals; the remainder of the animals come in from animal control and the local police. OWRC is the only facility in Maryland equipped to rescue wildlife in the Chesapeake Bay. Sea turtles, osprey, and pelicans are among the water wildlife seen by OWRC.
When the Orphaned Wildlife Rescue Center (OWRC) opened its doors to orphaned and injured animals in 1990, it was a fulfillment of a lifelong dream for founder R.G. (Doc) Wexler. He had long been an advocate for animal rehabilitation, a commitment Wexler can track back to his youth when he found an injured baby rabbit. When he grew older, Wexler volunteered for seventeen years at the former Chesapeake Wildlife Sanctuary in Bowie, Maryland before using his life's savings and retirement to establish OWRC in Lusby, Maryland. The center is only one of five wildlife facilities located in the state, and serves the counties of Calvert, Charles, and St. Marys.
Orphaned Wildlife Rescue Center is a 501(c)(3) publicly-supported, non-profit charitable organization.

Founded in 1996 for the purpose of humane education, pet rescue and adoption of healthy, social pets to suitable families. We have fulfilled our goals by rescue of pets that were strays, owner given up and from shelters. We vet these pets completely including testing, altering, shots, micro-chipping. Through showing at PetsMart, Petco and Petfinder.com, we find them forever homes.[ Last Updated: 10-Feb-2011 | Hits: 1173 | Reader Comments Report Problem

Pets on Wheels is a not for profit volunteer organization which provides friendly visits from volunteers and their pets to those requiring the support of an institutional setting. Visits are most often to nursing homes; however assisted living communities and facilities for the physically and mentally challenged are also recipients of our visits. Recently veterans’ hospitals, programs for the homeless and children at risk of home out placement have also been added to our visits. Our emphasis is on residents who have been unresponsive to ongoing activities. Many of these patients have impaired cognitive abilities due to specific illnesses such as Alzheimer’s disease and react to animals with more awareness than to people around them. For instance, repetitive speech behavior or annoying mannerism may cease while a patient is petting an animal. Pets love unconditionally even when a person is no longer attractive, even-tempered, or agile. Their warmth makes a difference to those they visit.[ Last Updated: 08-Apr-2012 | Hits: 1058 | Reader Comments Report Problem

Our club was founded to enable equestrians in Southern Maryland and the surrounding areas the opportunity to enjoy the trail riding experience. We are non-competitive, and riders can ride the trails at their own pace, with faster riders starting out in front and slower riders at the rear. Trails are always marked, and novice horses and novice riders are welcome to ride with the more experienced riders. Our members are there to offer assistance if needed. We host monthly rides and an overnight/weekend ride held in August. We also host two fun filled General Meetings per year, one at the start of the year to welcome in new board members and one in July. Each ride ends with a gathering of friends over great food![ Last Updated: 07-Apr-2008 | Hits: 380 | Reader Comments Report Problem
