![]() Mary Ann Mattingly, 85, of Leonardtown, MD passed away October 3, 2014. Born on December 10, 1928 she was the daughter of the late Joseph Louis Edwards and Birdie Viola Davis of Leonardtown.
She was predeceased in death by her husband James Maguire (Mac) Mattingly, Jr., her son David Robert Mattingly and her brother Joseph Louis Edwards, Jr. Mary Ann is survived by her three children: Laura Ellen Roberts (Michael) of Leonardtown, James Maguire Mattingly, III (Linda) of Leonardtown and Michael Edwards Mattingly of Great Mills, MD, six grandchildren: Kelly Lynn Roscoe (Michael) of Leonardtown, Kimberly Ann Lawrence (Ralph) of Chaptico, Jill Nicole Burrell (Joshua) of Huntsville, Alabama, Candice Michelle Hester (Nicholas) of Severna Park, MD, J. Maguire Mattingly, IV of Leonardtown, Jonathan Howard Mattingly (Leanne) of Leonardtown and eight great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Richard S. Edwards of Leonardtown. A lifetime resident of St. Mary's County. She attended St. Mary's Academy from grade one through twelve, graduating in 1946, Mary Ann married J. Maguire (Mac) Mattingly, Jr. on October 15, 1949. Together they celebrated 43 years of marriage until his death in 1992. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, "Mom-Mom", care giver and most of all a devoted wife. Mary Ann, "Shugie", to her friends, was an employee at the original First National Bank of St. Mary's. She enjoyed working with the public and became friends with many of the customers throughout her career. She retired from the bank after more than thirty years of service. After retirement she volunteered at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Leonardtown and the St. Mary's County Fair helping with accounting and finances. Mom-Mom, a name given by her grandchildren, was all about family and enjoyed hosting the family Christmas Eve dinners and socializing with her close friends and family. She was a quiet, dignified and well respected lady whom we all loved. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home with prayers recited at 6:30 PM. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at 11:00 AM in St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church Leonardtown, MD. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Michael Edwards Mattingly, J. Maguire Mattingly, IV, Jonathan H. Mattingly, J. Richard Mattingly, Jr., Ralph Lawrence and Thomas Farr. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of St. Mary's and/or the Leonardtown Volunteer Rescue Squad. Arrangements provided by Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home. |
