Richard Lee (Dick) Rivers of Waldorf, MD died on October 3, 2014 surrounded by his wife and children. He was 74 years old.

Born on March 31, 1940 in Carthage, NY and raised in Cantonment, Fl, he was the son of the late Miriam (Misisca) and Harold Rivers. In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth (Ousterhoudt) Rivers, Carthage, NY; and brothers, Jack Rivers, Sneads, FL and David Rivers, San Jose, CA.

After graduating from Tate High School in 1957, Dick joined the Air Force. He was a Vietnam Veteran and was stationed at many locations around the world during his distinguished 28 year career. He was awarded numerous medals and commendations for service to his country before retiring from active duty in 1985. He continued to serve his country as an Air Force civilian until his final retirement in 2005.

Dick was an avid golfer and bowler. In the past 6 years his life was enriched by his 4 legged friend and constant companion, Brandi Rose. He dearly loved his music and his Miami Dolphins but his greatest love was his family.

He is survived and will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 55 years, Gloria (Given) Rivers; his children, Marilyn (Glenn) Newton, Leesburg, VA; Linda (Bill) Vigil, LaPlata, MD; Richard (Lori) Rivers, Hamilton, VA; and Sandra (Brian Leeser) Gonzales, Manassas, VA; his 12 grandchildren, Jessica White, Elizabeth Gonzales, Kristi Corthell, Natalie Rivers, Erika Gorlick, Zachary Vigil, Richard (Tony) Rivers, Caitlin Newton, Sydney Vigil, Emily Rivers, Jordan Rivers, and Kailee Leeser; and his 3 great-grandchildren, Cole Humphries and Tully and Jensen Vigil. He is also survived by his loving brother Eric (Sally) Rivers, Biloxi, MS and his sister Martha O'Dillion, Cantonment, FL.
