![]() JOHN WILBUR DAVIS was born March 27, 1921 in Chapel Hill, Maryland. He was the son of the late John F. and the late Ada M. Davis.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Emma White, Chester and Richard Davis. John was educated at Chapel Hill School until the 6th grade. He joined Grace United Methodist Church at an early age. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1940. He then went to work at Indian Head Powder Plant. He started driving a school bus for Prince George's County in 1948 and after one year bought his own bus and continued to transport children to school for a total of 48 years. He also chartered his buses for trips to all over the Washington Area. He owned and operated Davis Grocery Store in Chapel Hill for many years. Although John was one of the hardest working people known, his favorite pastime was eating which he took every opportunity to do whenever possible. On Monday, March 3, 2008 at the Birchwood Group Home in Accokeek, Maryland, John departed this life for life eternal. Left to cherish his memories are his devoted companion, Margaret Mansfield, children-Lawrence Davis and Glendora Goode; 2 grandchildren-Alexis and Adele Goode; nieces-Dora, Diane, Tawana and Tanya; great nephew-Marcus; daughter-in-law-Georgianna Davis; sister-in-law-Ethel Wright. He was especially loved by the Mansfield family-Angela, Myra, Paul, Sandy and Sonya, who affectionately nicknamed him "JD". John was also a life long guardian, mentor and friend to Ralph "Lecount" Hodge, Colonel, U.S. Air Force (Retired). He was a life time member of the Bee Hive Lodge #66, Pomonkey, Maryland serving more than 60 years. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 10, 2008 at Grace United Methodist Church, 11700 Old Fort Rd., Fort Washington, MD with viewing at 9:00am until time of service at 11:00am.
