Shirley "Shirl" Ann Schmachtenberg, 79, of Leonardtown, MD formerly of Silver Spring, MD, passed away on September 8, 2014 in Leonardtown, MD. Born on June 26, 1935 in Davy, WV she was the daughter of the late Lena S. and John Vogt.

Shirley was the loving wife of Richard Schmachtenberg whom she married on November 1, 1955 in Takoma Park, MD.

Shirley is survived by her children; Rick Schmachtenberg of Portland, OR, Sherry Price of Baltimore, MD, 2 grandchildren and sister; Pauline Templeman of Hendersonville, NC. She is preceded in death by her siblings; William Vogt, Robert Vogt, Floyd Vogt, and Carl Vogt.

Shirley graduated from Mt. Veron Academy in 1954 and attended Washington Adventist University. She moved from Silver Spring, MD to St. Mary's County, MD in 1993, and was a homemaker.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 17, 2014 from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD. A Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 PM in the Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Volody Grinchenko officating. Interment will follow in Charles Memorial Gardens, Leonardtown, MD. Pallbearers; Rick Schmachtenberg, Stefan Schmachtenberg, Joseph Price, Enoque Filo, Valentine Lynch, and Ron Surfield.
