David "Dave" Henry Pitts, III, 77, of Mechanicsville, MD formerly from Richlands, NC passed away on August 30, 2014 in Callaway, MD. Born on October 17, 1936. He was the son of the late Ruth Ervin Thompson Pitts, and David Henry Pitts, II.

Dave was the loving husband of Debra Lowdermilk Pitts, whom he married on May 9, 1987 in Upper Marlboro, MD.

Dave is survived by his children; Angela Pitts of Clements, MD, Karen Pitts Guy (Buddy) of Mechanicsville, MD, John Pitts of Dallas, TX, 6 grandchildren; Cory Middleton, Chas Guy, Chelsey Guy, Nicole Pitts, Joshua Pitts, Laura Pitts, and sister Mary Pitts Cowan (Dale) of Berkeley Springs, WV.

Dave graduated from Richlands High School in 1954, and Atlantic Christian College in 1959 with a degree in education. He also graduated from Frostburg State University with a Masters Degree in School Administration. He moved from Richlands, NC to St. Mary's County and worked a at School Administrator for Prince Georges County Board of Education for 40 years, retiring in 1998, from Glenridge Elementary School. Dave belonged to the National Educators Association, Prince Georges Public School retirees Association, Alpha Sigma Phi.

He loved the Washington Redskins, Washington Nationals, he enjoyed traveling to Maine and Vermont to get his Green Mountain Coffee, and he loved to spend time with his grandchildren taking them to the Baysox games and watching their sporting events. Before his illness he was an active member in Hughesville Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 13, 2014 from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD. A Funeral Service will follow at 11:00 AM in the Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Kevin Cullins officiating. Interment will follow in Charles Memorial Gardens, Leonardtown, MD. Pallbearers; Cory Middleton, Chas Guy, Eddie Middleton, Patrick Moran, Joshua Pitts, and Frank Leitera. Honorary Pallbearer will be Billy Guy, and David Stasch.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice House of St. Mary's, P.O. Box 625, Leonardtown, MD 20650 and/or Michael J. Fox Parkinson Foundation, Grand Central Station, P.O. Box 4777, New York, NY 10163-4777. Arrangements provided by Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, Leonardtown, MD.
