Sandra Kay Thompson, 63, of Mechanicsville, MD passed away at her residence surrounded by her loving family on August 14, 2014. Born on November 16, 1950 she was the daughter of the late Livy Ann Bowles and Joseph Herman Bowles.

Kay was the loving wife of Francis Courtney Thompson whom she married on October 4, 1969 in Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Mechanicsville, MD.

Kay is survived by her children: Cassandra Thompson of Mechanicsville, MD, Christopher Thompson (Pamela) of Lusby, MD, grandchildren; Kaylie Thompson, Trent Thompson, Jace Thompson, and Abigail Goelling. Siblings; JoAnne Benfield, Edward Bowles, David Bowles and Sharon Bell all of Mechanicsville, MD, Livy Herche of Prince Frederick, MD, Dale Bowles of Charlotte, NC., Donald Bowles of Cocoa, FL, Jackie Zielstorf of Hollywood, MD, Lilly Griffith, and Joseph Bowles, Jr. both of Hagerstown, MD.

She was preceded in death by her sister Judy Kara. Kay graduated from Chopticon High School in 1968 and worked as a child care provider. She enjoyed cooking, playing bingo, and loved her family.

The family will receive friends on Monday, August 18, 2014 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Leonardtown, MD. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at 10:00 AM in Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Mechanicsville, MD with Rev. Ann Strickler officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers; Charles Bowles, Justin Bowles, Timothy Zielstorf, Joseph Bowles, David Bowles, and Timothy Bell.
