James William Herring, Sr. of La Plata, MD died on April 29, 2014 at his residence with Hospice. He was 87.

Mr. Herring was a service manager with Hunt Ford and other dealerships for 40 plus years and a veteran of the United States Navy, having served during World War II. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Waldorf where he served as a volunteer and loved his Catholic faith. He was a Redskin fan who enjoyed hosting football parties and a member of the American Legion Post in La Plata, MD. He was always known for helping others but mostly liked being with his family – best dad ever.

He is the son of the late George Edward Herring and the late Cecelia Beckley Herring. He is also predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth Ann Herring. He is survived by one son, James W. Herring, Jr. and his wife Beth; two daughters, Patricia Ann Palchak and her husband Don and Teresa Olson and her husband Rudy; and one sister, Mary Catherine Sheahan. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Friends received on Saturday, May 3, 2014 from 10AM until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11AM at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 3320 St. Peter's Drive, Waldorf, MD 20601. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements by Raymond Funeral Service, La Plata, MD.
