Vera died suddenly, Monday, April 21, 2014 after an aggressive fight with ovarian cancer.
Vera was born in Johnstown, PA in 1954 to Irene Elizabeth Norris and the late John Joseph Beatrice. She was the third oldest of seven children. The family moved to Brentwood, MD where Vera attended North Western High School. Vera played Basketball for St. James Church in Mt. Rainer and softball for The House of Crabs before injuring her shoulder. Vera and her soul mate, Thomas Grubbs, were together for 30 years. They raised their family in Prince Georges County before moving to Calvert in 1994. Vera worked in Property/Residential Management in Prince Georges County before moving to Washington, DC. Vera was a great mother, loving wife, trustworthy sister, caring daughter and generous friend. She was the light of any party and was the glue that held the family together. She had a heart of gold and was the most forgiving, strong, beautiful, sincere, concerned, calming, funny, honest and trusting woman. Vera loved taking her family to vacation each year in Ocean City, MD. She would save every penny earned to afford the trip to sit by the water. She enjoyed picking crabs and attending country music concerts with her family and friends. Vera was the beloved daughter to Irene Norris and the late John Beatrice, loving wife to Thomas Grubbs, mother to; Don Wall, Jr., Mark Wall (deceased), and June (Mark) Eckenrode, sister to; Sharon Tanis, Angeline Beatrice, Renie Beatrice, Toni Dorsey, Louis Beatrice and Tina Newsome. She is affectionately known as "Baba" to 8 grandchildren; Amanda Cushman, Jessica Wall, Brittany Wall, Karen Eckenrode, Stephen Innocente, Jr., Michael Eckenrode, Andrew Eckenrode and Bradley Eckenrode and her one great granddaughter, Brooklyn Wall.
