David William Jump, 91, died Friday, February 8, 2008. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Jump, who died on February 8, 2004. Mr. Jump had resided in La Plata for several years, but he was born and raised and lived most of his life in Willard, Ohio and Marion, Ohio. He and his wife also resided in Florida for twenty years where they enjoyed their retirement. He was born on March 22, 1917. He was the son of the late Otto V. and Lula Bell Jump.

He was preceded in death by six brothers: Maxwell, Harry, Robert, James, Water, Richard; and two sisters: Harriet Leininger and Margaret Vogt.

He was the retired manager/owner, along with his brothers, of Jump's Clothing Store in Willard, Ohio. He expanded the business to Plymouth, Sandusky, and Marion, Ohio. During World War II he served as an officer in the Army in Puerto Rico. Mr. Jump was member of the United Methodist Church, Willard Elks, Willard Country Club, Golf Hammock Country Club, and Caloosa Greens Golf Club. He was an avid "scratch" golfer who shot his age when he was 73, and an avid life-long fan of the Cleveland Browns and the Ohio State Buckeyes.

He is survived by five children and their spouses: Margaret and Leonard Peterson of LaPlata; Virginia and Michael Tony of Darnestown, MD; William Jump and Marie Minton of Santa Cruz, CA; Thomas and Judi Jump of Denver, CO; and Jeffrey Jump of Columbus, OH. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Alex Jump, David Tony, Marcus Jump, Tyler Jump, Christopher Jump, Camille Jump, and Elizabeth Castner Wertheim; and one great-grandson, Hunter Wertheim.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 19 from 5-7pm at Arehart-Echols Funeral Home in LaPlata, and a service and burial will take place at 11 am at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham.
