George Louis Petrakis, 71, of Waldorf, MD and formerly of Riverdale, MD and Hughesville, MD passed away on March 2, 2014 at Calvert Memorial Hospital.

He was born on February 20, 1943 in Takoma Park, MD to the late Ftemi "Demo" Petrakis and the late Madaline (Amorosi) Petrakis.

George was a sound engineer to both houses of the United States Congress and spent more than thirty years working on Capitol Hill with the office of the Architect of the Capitol.

George moved to Hughesville in 1977. He belonged to the Wicomico Senior Blitz Golf League at Wicomico Shores. George enjoyed all sports and was a Redskins football fan. He also liked the Nationals baseball team, Maryland Terps, and Washington Wizards basketball team.

George is survived by his wife of 47 years, Susan D. Petrakis; sons, Michael Anthony Petrakis and Mark Alan Petrakis; brother, John J. Petrakis (Nora); sister, Karen Petrakis; grandson, Matthew Anthony Petrakis; aunt/godmother, Elaine Petrakis and many other relatives and friends.

Family and friends will be received for George's Memorial Life Celebration Gathering on Friday, March 7, 2014 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622. A Memorial Service will begin at 11:00 AM on Friday, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, Susan has requested that contributions be made in George's honor to the ASPCA: American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, 424 E. 92nd Street, New York, NY 10128-6804.
