![]() Melvin Ray Cass, 85, of Mechanicsville, MD passed away February 7, 2014 at his residence. Born June 17, 1928 in Burwell, Nebraska he was the son of Clarence Jerome Cass and Lena Francis Smith Cass.
Melvin was a retired police officer with the Metropolitan Police Department. He was a member of Lions Club; Mechanicsville, MD; V.F.W. Post # 9619, Morningside, MD; American Legion Post #0298, Burwell, NE. He was a volunteer delivery driver for Meals on Wheels in Southern MD. Melvin also offered free transportation for the Amish community to doctor's appointments, Red Cross Blood Drive and other blood drives; funerals, and weddings as far as Pennsylvania. He liked fishing, vegetable gardening; member of the Fleetwood Hunt Club, in Supply, VA. Melvin was predeceased by his parents and sister Ruth Anne Cyriacks. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara Cass; children, Lorene Cooper of Waldorf, MD, Karen Gaye of Rockville, MD, Cheryl Davidson of Rogersville, TN and Steven Cass of Lexington Park, MD; brother, Glenn Cass of Freemont, NE and sister, Donna (Beth) Fischer of Ord, NE; Grandchildren; Eric Cooper, Della Cass, and April Cass. 9 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends for Melvin's Life Celebration on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 from 5pm to 8 pm at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Rd., Charlotte Hall, MD. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at La Plata United Methodist Church, La Plata, MD at 11:00 am. The Pastor's James Chance and Bruce Jones will officiate. Interment will take place at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD on Thursday February 20, 2014. at 2 pm. Memorial donations may be made in Melvin's name to Alzheimer's Association National Capital Area Chapter; 511 Charles St., La Plata, MD. Arrangements provided by Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home. |
