![]() Jackie "Jack" Charles Matlock, Sr., 66, of Chaptico, MD died January 22, 2014, at MedStar St. Mary's Hospital in Leonardtown, MD. He was born November 14, 1947 in Annapolis, MD to the late Donald Cort Matlock and Imogene Leo Harris Matlock.
On December 14, 1974, Jack married his beloved wife, Florence Matlock in Anne Arundel County, MD. Together they celebrated 39 years, "10" wonderful together as he lovingly joked. He was employed for twenty-five years by Kay Management until his retirement in 2010 as a Chief Mechanical Engineer. He also worked in welding and as a tractor trailer driver. He enjoyed helping others, and dedicated his life to doing just that. For the past twenty years, he spent time helping all his Amish friends with transportation to various places. He was a strong advocate for the American Red Cross, donating blood every six months and recruiting as many people as possible to do the same. He also believed in giving as an organ and tissue donor and was able to save many lives with his final wishes. Family was Jack's first priority. He loved to spend any free time with his children and grandchildren. He created many fond memories for his children by taking them camping in Western Maryland and on vacations to Pigeon Forge, TN. His hobbies included deer hunting, small game hunting, fishing, crabbing, and visiting his family in Virginia. He also enjoyed cheering on the Dallas Cowboys. In addition to his beloved wife, Jack is also survived by his children, Patricia Lacey (Raymond) of Chaptico, MD, Jackie Charles "Chuck" Matlock, Jr. (Veronica) of Mechanicsville, MD, and Donald Matlock (Susan) of Mechanicsville, MD; his brothers, Tom Matlock (Valerie) of Rose Hill, VA, Ed Matlock (Linda) of Pennington, VA, and Jeff Matlock (Charlotte) of Rose Hill, VA; his sister, Carol Deavers of Hanover, PA; and his grandchildren, Emily, Nathan, Daniel, Samantha, Alyssa, Bryanna, Rebecca, Jessica, and Matthew Gunnar. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Memorial Contributions may be made to Seventh District Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 7, Chaptico, MD 20621 and The American Red Cross, St. Mary's Chapter, P.O. Box 387, Leonardtown, MD 20650. Arrangements by the Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A., Leonardtown, MD. |
