On Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at the Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C., Mary Katrina Chase transitioned to life eternal. Toni, as she was affectionately known to family and friends, was born July 27, 1957, to Mary Evelyn Farmer and the late Ambrose Cecil Chase, Sr. As a young girl, Toni attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was educated in the Charles County Public Schools and graduated from La Plata High School in 1975. Shortly after graduating from high school, Toni went to work for the United States Department of the Navy. She gave 40 years of dedicated and loyal service until her health began to fail. Toni retired July 31, 2013. There was nothing Toni would not do for her family and friends. She was one of the kindest people you would ever meet. Toni was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. She always gave monetary donations to support the good-will causes her mother sponsored over the years. Toni loved family gatherings, especially the huge annual cookout at her grandfather, Joe Farmer's, home. Known as the Bingo Queen, Toni loved playing Bingo at the ADF Community Outreach Center and trips to Maryland Live with friends. She was often heard saying, "I'm on my way to my part-time job!" An avid Dallas Cowboys fan, Toni was known to put Redskins fans out of her home whenever Dallas lost. A phenomenal "female" football expert, Toni knew every player, quarterback and coach for every professional team. Friends would call her with football trivia questions and she could answer without hesitation. A more knowledgeable and devoted football fan did not exist! Toni was preceded in death by her father, Ambrose Cecil Chase, Sr.; stepfather, Ernest C. Brown; grandparents, Elsie Duckett, Bennie Bond, Catherine Eloise Farmer, Ambrose M. and Estelle Chase; and sister, Paulette Chase. Toni's memories will be cherished by her loving and devoted daughter, Tonda Chase; mother, Mary Evelyn Farmer-Brown; grandson, Nigel Good; siblings, Patrick "Andre" Farmer (Cindy), Lamont Farmer (Tanya), Tyeast Farmer (Arthur), Cynthia, Brenda, Pamela and Cecil Chase, Jr., Donna Chase-Johnson, Kimberly Chase Swann (George), Carleton Chase (Tyvese), Carlotta Chase-Hall, and Deborah Chase-Wells (Tony); nephew, Anthony Joseph Washington; niece, Shenika Farmer; godparents Gloria Jefferson and W. Cecil Short; and a host of other family and friends. Among them her very special friends, the "Golden Girls", Gloria Jean Johnson, Marinda Garrett-Bennett, Jacquelyn "Cookie" Marbury, Phillipa Taylor, Joanne Holmes, Mary "Garletha" Thombs and Constance Brooks. Viewing, 9am until Mass of Christian Burial, 10am, Monday, January 20, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 201 St. Mary's Avenue, La Plata, Maryland 20646.
