Joe Wheeler Smith of Port Republic, Md. passed away on July 29, 2007 at Washington Hospital Center. Husband of Mary C. Smith of Port Republic, father of Joseph W. Smith of San Diego Ca., Kathleen Dalkiewicz of New Market, Md. and Raymond M. Smith of Gig Harbor, Wa. Father in law of Edward Dalkiewicz and Mary Klimek-Smith. Grandfather of Jennifer, Kayla, Sidney, Sarah, Elizabeth Smith and Eddie Dalkiewicz. Brother of the late Bertha Willard.

Joe was born on January 26, 1925 in Harrogate, TN. to the late Paris James and Finie Cosby Smith. He served in the Army during WWII from 1943 to 1946. He retired from Exxon in 1975, then starting his own company, Smith Heating and Air Conditioning. He was very active in the community, being an active member in the Calvert County Lions Club, the Prince Frederick and Collington Masonic Lodge and the American Legion Post # 85 in Huntingtown. He loved to travel and would attend his WWII Reunions every year.

The family received friends at the Rausch Funeral Home, P. A. 4405 Broomes Island Rd., Port Republic, MD on Thursday August 2, 2007 from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. where funeral service were held on Friday August 3, 2007 at 10:00 A.M. Interment MD Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, Md.
