Michael Edward Hammett, Sr., 89, of Ridge, MD passed away on December 26, 2013 at his residence. Born on October 10, 1924 in Ridge, MD he was the loving son of the late Alfred Franklin and Mary Theresa "Mamie" Hammett.

Michael was the loving husband of the late Marion Regina Combs Hammett, whom he married in Holy Face Catholic Church Great Mills, MD on October 15, 1949.

Michael is survived by his children; Michael Hammett, Jr., of St. Mary's City, MD, Donald Hammett of St. Inigoes, MD, Mary Kalmus of Virginia Beach, VA, Anne Hammett of Pearl City, HI, Mark Hammett of Fort. Collins, Co, 9 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren, and a brother Alfred Orem Hammett.

He is preceded in death by his siblings Thomas Franklin Hammitt, Mary Lorena, Daniel Hammett, Ida Josephine, Johnson Jerome Hammett, Teresa Geatrude, Hilda Catherine, John Adell Hammett, Agnes Lucille, Alice Magdeline, and Joseph Richard Hammett.

Michael graduated from St. Michael's High School on May 31, 1942 and was a lifelong resident of St. Mary's County, MD. Michael served in the United States Army from March 31, 1943 to January 10, 1946, while serving in the Army he earned the American Theater Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Metal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Service Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Theater Service Ribbon, WWII Victory ribbon. Michael worked for Patuxent River Naval Air Station as a property disposal officer for 35 years retiring on March 18, 1978.

He enjoyed crabbing, playing ball, square dancing, building and fixing cars, boats and houses.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 2, 2014 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM with prayers recited at 7:00 PM in St. Michael's Catholic Church Ridge, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 3, 2013 at 10:00 AM with Father Peter Giovanoni officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
