Joyce Ann Hammett, 67, of Compton, MD died September 23, 2006 in St. Mary's Nursing Center, Leonardtown, MD. Born May 10, 1939 in Leonardtown, MD she was the daughter of the late Warren James & Helen Frances Wheeler Guy, Sr. She was the loving wife of Spencer Jerome Hammett whom she married on June 22, 1963 in St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Leonardtown, MD.

She is survived by her children: Michael Hammett of Hollywood, MD, Carol Hammett of Compton, MD, Matthew Hammett of Mechanicsville, MD and Susan Tippett of Lexington Park, MD; siblings: Mary Paula Thompson of Clements, MD, Barbara Dotson of Mechanicsville, MD, Ella Tennyson of Scotland, MD, Michael Guy of Bushwood, MD, Kenneth Guy, Warren Guy and Ernest Guy all of Leonardtown, MD and her loving granddaughters: Kristen, Valerie, Grace and Ella Hammett, Julie and Lauren Tippett.

Mrs. Hammett was a lifelong St. Mary's County resident where she graduated from St. Mary's Academy Class of 1957. She worked as a homemaker/business manager for Jerome Hammett Plumbing & Heating for 24 years. She enjoyed visiting the Guy family farm, attending mass, dining out, reading, watching the Orioles win, playing games and loving her granddaughters. Joyce was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Compton, MD.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 27, 2006 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, where Prayers will be said at 7:00 PM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, September 28, 2006 at 10:00 AM in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Compton, MD with Fr. John Mattingly officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Stephen Guy, Francis Guy, David Tippett, Guy Landau, Kevin Thompson and Eddie Wathen.

Honorary Pallbearers will be: David Guy, Brian Guy, Jamie Guy, Christopher Guy and Stephen Tennyson.
