Adrian Baker Swicegood passed away Sunday, November 17, 2013 at Charlotte Hall Veterans Home. He formerly lived with his wife in Temple Hills, MD. Adrian was born on April 10, 1928 in Washington, NC, the son of the late Carlis Ervie and Mildred Baker Swicegood. He was also preceded in death by a half-brother, Carlis Swicegood and a half-sister, Hazel Owen.
Adrian was an accomplished musician. He was in the Air Force from 1949 to 1952 and was assigned to the field band at Andrews Air Force Base. After leaving the service, he continued to work as a musician and a piano tuner. He played at one time with one of Charlie Daniels' first bands, the Jaguars, in Washington, DC. He also played at one time with Link Wray and the Raymen, famous for the 1958 hit, "Rumble." While at Charlotte Hall Veterans Home, he was one of the musicians who accompanied the Sunday afternoon church service. Adrian was a volunteer fire fighter and served for over 20 years at the Forestville Volunteer Fire Department. Adrian is survived by his wife of 28 years, Elizabeth Lewis Swicegood; a stepson, Wayne Evelhoch; and a niece, Jane Harlen. Friends received on Friday, November 22, 2013 from 2PM until time of Funeral Service at 3:30PM at Raymond Funeral Service Chapel, 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, MD 20646. Interment on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at 2PM at MD Veterans Cemetery, 11301 Crain Highway, Cheltenham, MD 20623. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Charlotte Hall Veterans Assistance Fund, Charlotte Hall Veterans Home, 29449 Charlotte Hall Road, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622.
