Andrew "Carroll" Simpson, 89 of La Plata died on November 15, 2013 at home. He was born July 22, 1924 in Washington D.C. to the late Andrew K. and Myrtle C. Simpson.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Fay, son Andrew Jr., and brothers Thomas "Ray" and Joseph "Billy" Simpson.

He is survived by his three daughters, Carolyn Johnson (Warren), Donna Carpentieri (George), Janice Giannotti (Wayne), granddaughter Savanna Giannotti and special niece, Carol Ann Farrell as well as other relatives.

Carroll was a farmer, a World War II Veteran, where he served aboard the USS Missouri as a rear gunner during the Pacific Campaign and the Japanese Surrender and retired from the Naval Ordinance Station in Indian Head.

He was an avid hunter, fisherman, reader and enjoyed woodworking, He was a lifetime member of the Charles County Rescue Squad where he served as Captain in 1963, a member of the American Legion Post 82 for over 40 years and an honorary member of the La Plata Volunteer Fire Department.

The Pallbearers are: Thomas Simpson, Jr., Warren Johnson, Wayne Giannotti, Troy Calvert, Steve Bowie and Fred Herbert. Honorary Pallbearers are: George Henderson, Allan Mudd and Harry Clark.

Services to be held at Arehart-Echols Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 20, 2013. Viewing 2:00 - 4:00 and 6:00 - 8:00 with prayers at 7:00. Burial to be held at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Charles County Rescue Squad. Arrangements provided by Arehart-Echols Funeral Home.
