![]() John Charles "Charlie" Grimsley, 61, of California, MD died on November 11, 2013 at Calvert Memorial Hospital in Prince Frederick, MD. Born July 8, 1952, in Takoma Park, MD, he was the son of the late John Donald Grimsley and Harriet Anne "Pat" Evans Grimsley of Livingston, TX.
Charlie proudly served in the United States Army from 1971 to his honorable discharge in 1979. During his service, he received the National Defense service medal, Expert Infantryman Badge, and the Expert Badge with M16 rifle. He was a lifetime welder serving the Maryland and Washington, DC area. On July 26, 1997, he married his beloved wife of 16 years, Hilda (Phelps) Grimsley. His hobbies included fishing, playing video games, listening to rock music, and playing cards with his friends. He had a great sense of humor and loved to joke with everyone. However, his greatest love was for his family. He was truly loved and will be dearly missed by them. In addition to his mother and wife, Charlie is survived by his sister, Anne Grimsley Friedrich (George) of Kingswood, TX, Larry Grimsley of North Charleston, SC and Dr. Mike Grimsley (Kristen) of Leonardtown, MD; his nieces, Bryan Friedrich, Robert Friedrich and Michelle Perez; his great niece, Annabelle Perez; his step-children, Benny Lyle and Shanie Steffey; his step-grandson, Anthony Johnson, Jr.; his step nieces, Marcia Harris and Maria Barnes; his step great niece, Rockesha Harris; and his sister-in-law Paula "Aunt Paula" (Allen) Clements of California, MD.
