![]() William James Kent was born on November 18, 1925 to the late Howard Kent, Sr. and Hattie Sutton Kent in Calvert County, MD. He peacefully transitioned on Friday, November 1, 2013 at his place of residence in Lusby, MD.
William, known by many as "Cherry or Dick Sutton", was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. In his latter years, he resided with his Uncle Lawrence and Aunt Bertina Weems. William was educated in the public schools of Calvert County, MD. On September 11, 1948, be married Elsie Marie Johnson Kent. From this union they were blessed with ten children. William was a carpenter with the Washington Carpenter's Union. He loved for everything to be neat and clean. He was always caring and concerned about others. When he worked he made certain it was done right and completed before leaving. William was a member and Trustee of Eastern United Methodist Church. He loved working at the place of Worship and Praise. William heard about the Gospel of Jesus Christ by the late Rev. Rutherford Robinson of Eastern Church. William was preceded in death by his son James Morris Kent; great-grandson, DeDryon Terrayus Johnson; brother, Albert "Joe" Sutton; sisters, Gertrude Douglas and Rebecca "Lettie" Odom and step-mom Beatrice Kent. William leaves to cherish his memories his loving, faithful and devoted wife, Elsie Marie Johnson Kent; 2 sons, Leon Johnson, Earl Johnson; 7 daughters, Doraine (Henry) Harris, Regina (Elsworth) Plater, Barbara Butler, Sharon Savage King, Denise L. Kent, Rita Kent and Melissa (Joseph) Kopyto; From another relationship, he also acknowledged as his son, Chris Curtis; 2 brothers, Henry and Howard Kent, Jr.; twenty-seven grandchildren; 3 sisters-in¬-law: Gertrude Johnson, Erma Johnson, and Sarah Dent; and a host of loving great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He also leaves special friends, Calvin Chase Sr., Amos Hurley, Joe Cali, Alexander Briscoe, Daniel Butler Sr., Malcolm Beverly Sr., George Johnson, Howard Chase, Owen Howard, Levi Butler and so many more.
