Ethel McClain Bridenbaugh, 100 of Leonardtown, MD died September 26, 2013 at the Hospice House of St. Mary's, Callaway, MD. Born December 27, 1912 in Saxton, PA she was the daughter of the late Harry Ellsworth McClain and Myrtle Mae (Kline) McClain.

Ethel had 2 loves in her life - her family and nursing. She married her husband Howard on November 11, 1940. They had 34 wonderful years together until his death in October 1974.

She worked as a private duty nurse in PA and FL prior to her marriage. After raising her children, she worked for 20 years as a nurse at the Butler Veterans Administration Hospital. Following her retirement from nursing, she enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the United States for 20 years.

In 2004, Ethel moved to Cedar Lane Senior Living Community in Leonardtown, MD, to be close to her daughter and her family. She made many friends at Cedar Lane where she enjoyed playing bridge in several daytime bridge groups and playing cards with her Cedar Lane friends in the evenings. She played bridge twice a week until 6 weeks before her death. She also enjoyed the weekly crochet group that met at her daughter's home.

Ethel is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Tom Stevens of Hollywood, MD; her daughter-in-law, Margaret Bridenbaugh of San Antonio, TX; her grandchildren, William H. Bridenbaugh III of St. Louis, MO, Gregory T. Stevens and his wife Amy of Germantown, MD, Catherine E. Pierce and her husband Michael of California, MD; and six great-grandchildren, Foster Pierce, Renna Pierce, Adam Pierce, Ryan Pierce, Siena Stevens and Sarah Stevens.

She was preceded in death by her husband, W. Howard Bridenbaugh; her son, William H. Bridenbaugh II; her brother, Harry McClain; and her parents, Harry and Myrtle McClain.

Family will receive friends on Sunday, September 29, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Brinsfield Funeral Home, 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown , MD 20650. A funeral service will be conducted by Pastor Mike Jones at 3:00 p.m. A private interment will be in Emlenton, PA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Friends of Cedar Lane, 22680 Cedar Lane Court, Leonardtown, MD 20650.
