John Thomas Gilmore of Waldorf, MD died on September 23, 2013 at University of MD Charles Regional Medical Center in La Plata, MD. He was 78 years old.

John was an electrical engineer with the Department of the Navy for 32 years and a veteran of the United States Army, having served from 1957 – 1960. John was a member of Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church in Waldorf and the Knights of Columbus. He was a Washington Redskins fan and known for his handy work "jack of all trades."

He is the son of the late John T. Gilmore and the late Beatrice George Gilmore.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Cynthia Gilmore; two sons, Patrick and Leon Gilmore; one daughter, Therese Gilmore; five sisters, Elaine Hardimen, Jean Wilson, Beverly Robinson, Joyce Marshall, and Ruth Wright; and five grandchildren, Rachel, Kyle, Alyssa, Jordan, and John Anthony. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church in Waldorf, MD. Interment to follow Mass at MD Veterans Cemetery in Cheltenham, MD with U. S. Army Honors.
