Ruth Rosella Thorne Alvey, 77 of Mechanicsville, MD died September 11, 2013 at 3:30 PM in Mechanicsville, MD. Born May 13, 1936 in Meadows, MD . She was the daughter of the late Margaret Randall Thorne and the late Richard Russell Thorne.

Ruth moved to St. Mary's County in 1964. She worked and retired at Colonial Farm Credit, ACA, 1990.

She married James Leonard Alvey in 1974.

She is survived by her husband, James Leonard Alvey, her sons, Ronald R. Wood, Sr. (JoAnne), Robert A. Alvey (Mary Ann), step-son Roger D. Alvey, Sr. (Pam), her daughter Janet Marie Wood (Henry Wilkins, Sr.), her brothers, Charles R. Thorne, Forestville, MD, James E. Thorne (Lois), Charlotte Hall, MD, sister, Martha Jane Schumann (Jimmie) Maryland, John W. Thorne, Baltimore, MD, nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, 6 step-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her son William R. Wood, her step-son, James F. Alvey, sister, Elsie Mae Sayler, brother, Paul Herbert Thorne.

She enjoyed camping, crafting, fishing, painting, woodcrafts, crafts, planting flowers, playing with her dogs and enjoying her children and grandchildren and many relatives.

Family will receive friends for Ruth's Life Celebration on Friday, September 13, 2013 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A. in Charlotte Hall, MD at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery, 38888 Dr. Johnson Road, Mechanicsville, MD. Pallbearers will be Paul Thorne, Jr., Jeff Thorne, Kenny Alvey, Jr. John Crine, Larry Alvey, Jr. Greg McVerry.
