Albert Wrede "Mac" McMullan, age 71, of California, Maryland, died at his home surrounded by his family on July 15, 2013.

Born in Teaneck, NJ on December 12, 1941, he was the son of the late Emily Sally (Wilkinson) and Albert Wrede McMullan.

Mac had a lifelong love for the military. At age 17, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. During his 25 years in the Marine Corps, he obtained the final rank of Master Sgt. Mac served three tours at Patuxent River Naval Air Station; from 1971-1973 at the NATC Service Test Division; from 1977 to 1981 at the Naval Aviation Logistics Center and Strike Aircraft Test Directorate; and finally returning to serve at the Rotary Wing Aircraft Test Directorate as the JVX lessons learned project officer from 1983-1985.

At his retirement, he transferred to the Fleet Marine Corps Reserves. He attended STAFF and NCO Schools. Mac was a Vietnam veteran having served 2 tours in country. Mac was also lifelong member of the VFW; NRA; and Fleet Reserve. Afterwards, he served for GCC Inc. for 15 years as a security guard on base.

Early in his career, Mac was a recruiter in Staten Island, NY for 4 years where he met Betty Lue Blair. They were married on her birthday on October 15, 1975.

Along with collecting military memorabilia, Mac loved to skeet shoot. He became a lifelong member of the Skeet Shooting Club. Mac loved his family, especially his dogs.

Mac is survived by his loving wife, Betty McMullan of California, MD; and his children Andrew Russell McMullan of NY; Melinda Ann Julias (Amir) of Jerusalem, Israel; Dawn Marie Ortega (Roma) of New York; Debra Ann Starr of Lexington Park, MD; AnnaLisa Orcutt of TN; Jennifer Lynn Merkell (Charles) of NH; and Paul Thomas Varney (Arlene) of NC. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Family will receive friends for Mac's Life Celebration on Sunday, July 21, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Brinsfield Funeral Home, 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, MD 20650. A funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.
