John Leroy Martyn, 55, of Chesapeake Beach, passed away July 15, 2013 at his residence after a long illness. He was born July 6, 1958 in Washington, D.C. to Jack Henry and Lillian (Russell) Martyn. He was raised in Oxon Hill and attended public schools in Prince George's County.

John was a self-employed stonemason by trade, and was also employed as a maintenance engineer for several hotels in the Waldorf and La Plata areas.

John enjoyed playing pool, fishing and helping his friends with their home improvement projects.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Virginia Titus.

John is survived by a daughter Brandy Lynn Thorne of White Plains, MD and a grandson Jacob Rawlings Leichtweif. Also surviving are sisters Dorothy Martyn, Janet Rupp and husband Joe, Phyllis Morgan and husband John, all of Chesapeake Beach, Jacqueline Swank and husband Bill of Waldorf, Kathryn Shirey and husband Paul of Fairfax, VA and Audrey Yoho and husband Skip of La Plata, MD.
