Joseph Sylvester Thompso, 58, of Mechanicsville, MD,passed away on July 9, 2013 at Southern Maryland Hospital. Joseph was born to the late Alice Cecilia Thompson-Miller and Charles H. Jones, Jr. on November 26, 1954. Joseph was raised by his grandparents, the late George Bernice and Agnes Rosie Thompson in Mechanicsville, MD.

"Mad Dog," as he was affectionately known to all who knew and loved him, was a caring person loved by all. Joseph attended Chopticon High School and he also served in the United States Army National Guard.

Joseph worked for various companies such as Jackie Mattingly, and Francis (Gabby) Fenwick, doing construction work, and DJ's One Stop Shop, working closely with Mark Bailey as a handyman and performing other duties within this establishment. They had a very special friendship and"Mad Dog" babysat for the Bailey children and they loved him so much.

Joseph accepted Christ at an early age and attended Saint Joseph's Catholic Church.
Some of Joseph's favorite hobbies include dancing, watching his beloved "Redskins" and wrestling and playing softball with the Oakville Bombers.

Joseph was preceded in death by two aunts, Dorothy Williams and Lee Etta Nelson and two uncles, Randolph Barnes and Melvin Jones.

Joseph leaves to cherish his memories his step-father, Clarence J. Miller, of Philadelphia, PA; siblings, Thomas L. Thompson, of Mechanicsville, MD, Gina Miller-Reese (Bill), Clarence T. Miller (Kathy), Mark Miller and Bruce Miller, all of Philadelphia, PA., Madeline Jones, Christine Jones, Charles H. Jones, Jr., Francis K. Jones and James Price. all of Maryland; one step-daughter, Peggy; two grandchildren; Jessica and Keesha Spears; three uncles, George B. Thompson Jr. (Minnie), Charles H. Thompson (Helen) and Wilmar Jones; six aunts, Marguerite Barnes, Marion Nelson (Francis), Yvonne Blackiston (William), Loretta Willett (a very devoted aunt, who stepped up as a mother, in the absence of his own mother), Theresa Thompson and Pearl Jones; three great-aunts, Estelle Thompson, Catherine Thompson and Francis (Tiny) Lewis; nephews and nieces, Shannon, Sheldon (Tyrone, Michelle), Briana (Shakena), Mya (Abe, Charemaine), Tiana, A.J., Niair (Natasha), Nyiesha, Mikal and Tamiya (Bruce); close cousins who attended to him during his most critical time of sickness.

Family will unite with friends for visitation from 9:00 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 29119 Point Lookout Road, Morganza, MD. Interment will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery, 38888 Dr. Johnson Road, Helen, MD.
