![]() Efton Dudley passed away May 9, 2013 at Charles County Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in La Plata, MD. He was born at Efton Hills in Grayton, MD on December 31, 1920. He was 92 years old.
He was the son of the late Roby Hammond Dudley and the late Alice Henderson Dudley and son-in-law of the late Charles H. Posey and the late Elsie V. Posey. In addition, he was predeceased by his granddaughter, Jennifer Sue Gibson Herman; his sister, Novella D. Rees; his brothers, Abner Elwood, Charles Henderson, Ernest Norbert, Robey Henry, and Wilton Kenneth Dudley. He is survived by his devoted wife of 72 years, Annie Leah Posey Dudley; his daughter, Johnney Ann Gibson and husband Woodrow of Beavercreek, OH; his son, Wayne Dudley and wife Elaine of La Plata, MD; his sisters, Ruth Morris of La Plata, MD and Elizabeth (Betty) Penniman of Laurel, MD; his brothers, George Dudley and wife Barbara of Indian Head, MD and Glenwood Dudley and wife Joyce of Nanjemoy, MD; his grandson, Daryl Gibson and wife Kathy of Greenwood, IN; his granddaughter, Jamie Parker and husband Michael of Bryantown, MD; great-grandchildren, Ashley Herman, Samantha Gibson, Joshua Gibson, Trenton, Nathan, and Travis Parker; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was an outstanding athlete and graduate of Nanjemoy High School. He continued his education at Strayer Business College with a BCS degree in accounting. He also attended American Institute of Banking, receiving a Certificate in Financial and Personnel Management. He began his banking career at County Trust Company in La Plata, MD in 1952 and retired January 1, 1983 as Assistant Vice President of the National Bank of Washington. Efton's greatest love was his wife (whom he considered the most beautiful and wonderful woman in the world), his family, and his church. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, share a kind word or impart a little advice no matter what the circumstance, and of course his sense of humor. To those he mentored, he became a life-long friend. He was ordained as Deacon of Indian Head Baptist Church in November 1954. He was an active member of Marbury Baptist Church and awarded Deacon Emeritus by Marbury Baptist Church in January 2005. After retirement he continued to be active in church and community services such as Habitat for Humanity. He helped to build the 1st Habitat House in Charles County. He helped construct the new Marbury Baptist Church in 1986-1987. He continued to serve whenever and wherever he was needed. To know him was to love him no matter how you addressed him: Mr. Dudley, Efton, Daddy, Pop, Uncle "E", Uncle Efton, Stick, Big E. His spirit will never be forgotten, as it lives on in all those lives that he touched. Visitation on Monday, May 13, 2013 from 2-4PM and 6-8PM at Raymond Funeral Chapel, 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, MD 20646 and on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 from 10AM until time of Funeral Service at 11AM at Marbury Baptist Church, 4670 Bicknell Road, Marbury, MD 20658. Rev. Tim Bean will officiate. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Waldorf, MD. Pallbearers: Wayne Dudley, Daryl Gibson, Woodrow Gibson, Michael Parker, Elwood Dudley, Kyle Dudley, Leslie Couchenour, and Earl Reitz.
