![]() Thomas Alvin Murphy, 82, of Pomfret, MD passed away at Charlotte Hall Veterans Home on March 20, 2013. He was born on June 29, 1930 in Dentsville, MD to the late Ella Gwyenette (Harris) and Frederick Augustus Murphy.
He served in the U.S. Army as Private First Class from November 1951 until October 1953, when he received an honorable discharge. Thomas enjoyed fishing, visiting family & friends, playing cards, and cracking jokes. He was a life-long Tobacco Farmer and also worked as a brick and block mason. In addition to his parents, Thomas was predeceased by his infant daughter, Debra Murphy; grandson, Johnny Vallaningham; brother, James Murphy; and sisters, Evelyn Murphy and Margaret Schuhart. Thomas is survived by his wife of 60 years, Gladys Marie (Wathen) Murphy of Pomfret, MD; his children, Thomas E. Murphy (Julie) of Pomfret, MD, Joan Holben (Ed) of Texas, Lewis Murphy (Betty) of Buds Creek, MD, Lois Murphy of Mechanicsville, MD, Donald Murphy of Mechanicsville, MD, Bobby Murphy (Christine) of Leonardtown, MD, Evelyn Muenzel (Frank) of California, MD Billy Murphy of Texas, Roger Murphy (Carol) of Hollywood, MD; brother, Harold Murphy of Lexington Park, MD; sister, Louise Collins (Tommy) of Florida; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild. Family and friends will be received for Thomas' Life Celebration on Saturday, March 23, 2013 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622. The Service will begin at 5:00 PM at the funeral home. Inurnment will be on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at 3:00 PM at Maryland Veteran Cemetery, 11301 Crain Highway, Cheltenham, MD 20623.
