John Hampton Jones, 74, of Bryans Road, MD, died Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Walter Reed National Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. Born January 9, 1939 in Greenville, SC, he was the son of the late Roy Clifton Jones and Lucy Blanchett Jones.

Mr. Jones retired from the U.S. Army in 1979 after 24 years of service having done tours in Korea and Vietnam where he was awarded a Bronze Star for his service. Mr. Jones retired for a second time on July 30, 1994 from Naval Ordnance Station in Indian Head, MD. Mr. Jones was an Equipment Specialist and wrote technical manuals for military weapons. While in the military and during his employment with the U.S. Government, he traveled the world visiting many countries.

Mr. Jones was a member of the Masons and enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and most importantly, spending time with his grandchildren.

Survived by his wife of 38 years: Catherine Readmond Jones; two sons: James Michael McGuigan and his wife Deborah and James Louis McGuigan and his wife Julie; one daughter: Debra Barton and her husband Grover; 19 grandchildren; and 30 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Saturday, March 16, 2013 from 2–4 PM and 6–8 PM with a prayer service by Pastor Larry Estevez at 7 PM at Raymond Funeral Chapel, 5635 Washington Ave., La Plata, MD 20646.

A private interment will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society or Wounded Warriors Project.
