![]() Frederick Fernandis Richardson entered into eternal rest on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Fort Washington Hospital, Fort Washington, Maryland. Frederick was born on September 4, 1924 in East Orange, New Jersey to Frederick Richardson and Agnes Wisdom Richardson.
He was educated in Havre De Grace, Maryland, and graduated from the Colored High School in 1942. He enlisted in the United States Navy right after high school and completed his tour of duty. He completed over three years of college at Princess Anne College on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. He probably would have completed his college education, but he met the love of his life, Lillian Myers. Frederick and Lillian were united in marriage on October 10, 1947 and lived in Washington, D.C. Soon after their marriage they purchased their first home in Washington, D.C., and later moved to Charles County where "Freddy" built the home that his family has remained in until the Lord called him home. "Freddy" joined the Metropolitan United Methodist Church in Indian Head, Maryland upon moving to Charles County and remained faithful and supporting. "Freddy" truly loved his church and was very active with the United Methodist Men, Finance Committee, Choraleers Choir, Usher Board, SHARE Food Program, Transportation Ministry (Seniors Program), Adult Sunday School Program, and Bible Study. He was active in the community as well. He enjoyed sharing and working with the NAACP, Christmas in April, and was a Boy Scout Troop Leader for many years with his sons at his side. He truly enjoyed and looked forward to his Thursday bowling league at the Fair Lanes Bowling Alley with his wife at his side bowling as well. He was proud of more than 19 years as a sober member of the Alcoholics Anonymous. He attended meetings all over the county sharing his story and thanking God for his Goodness and Mercy. "Freddy" worked as a carpenter for a short while before becoming a full time employee with the United States Postal Service from which he retired after more than thirty years of service. Upon retirement, he jumped feet-first into volunteering his time and talents all over the county to whomever needed his assistance. He was so devoted to his family, friends, and church. Whatever you needed repaired, just call "Freddy"—he would be right there. That's why he was called "Ready Freddy". To cherish his fond memories, he leaves his loving and devoted wife of 65 years, Lillian; his children, Eric, Joy Hinton, Wayne and Alan (Jocelyn); a very loving and devoted granddaughter, Ericka Richardson Thomas; a loving goddaughter, Virginia Pickett; ten grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; one sister-in-law, Ophelia Myers; two brothers-in-law, Oliver Myers (Alice) and Girard Myers (Edith); his Metropolitan Church Family and a host of relatives and friends. His Viewing will be held on Friday, February 22, 2013 at 9:30am until Services 11:00am at the Metropolitan United Methodist Church, 3385 Metropolitan Church Road, Indian Head, Maryland. Interment, 10:00am Monday, February 25, 2013 at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, Maryland. Arrangements provided by Thornton Funeral Home. |
