Routh Virginia Chandler of Popes Creek, MD died on Sunday, January 27, 2013 at the Charles County Hospice House in Waldorf, MD. She was 97 years old.

Mrs. Chandler was a high school teacher with Lackey High School for 31 years and a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Wayside, MD. She was a graduate of the University of MD College and a member of the Tri-Delta Sorority. She helped found and develop the Richard R. Clarke Senior Center in La Plata, MD and was a member of the 2-N-1 Club. She also belonged to the Democratic Club of Charles County and met with the Lackey Ladies Club each month. In later years, she tutored at Dr. Higdon Elementary School.

Daughter of the late William Hickey and the late Margaret Dorsett Hickey.

Predeceased by her parents; her late husband: Harold Haislep Chandler; one son-in-law: John Cook; and one late grandchild: Michael Robinson.

Survived by one son: Charles T. Chandler of Popes Creek, MD and three daughters: Margaret M. Chandler of Laurel, MD, Routh (Wayne) Widmayer of Mt. Airy, MD, and Elizabeth H. (Daniel) Stine of Newburg, MD. Also survived by six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

Gathering: Saturday, February 2, 2013 from 1PM until time of Memorial Service at 3PM at Raymond Funeral Chapel (5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, MD 20646). Clergy: Chaplin Kimberly McKnight. Interment: Old Durham Episcopal Church Cemetery in Ironsides, MD.
