Robert Barry Sweeney, 55, of La Plata, MD, passed away on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at Southern Maryland Hospital Center in Clinton, MD. Robert was born on October 5, 1957 to the Late Allan Lee Sweeney and Ida Mae Kaplan Gannon in Washington, DC.

Robert enjoyed many things, including tennis, bowling, and shooting pool. But mostly spending time with his family and for being a father and a grandfather. He had an incredible passion of placing value on family and friends above all material things.

He operated his own cleaning business for over 20 years with many long term customers.

He was predeceased by his father, Allan Lee Sweeney, Grandmother Ruby Mae Kaplan, paternal grandmother Catherine C. Suit, his grandfather Elmer J Sweeney, maternal grandfather Robert Kaplan.

Robert is survived by his mother, Ida Gannon; his stepfather, Henry M. Gannon; his sons: Michael A. Sweeney of Port Republic, MD; Robert J. Wyatt (Pam) of Waldorf, MD; his daughters: Carey J. Richmond (William) of St. Leonard. MD, Shannon C. Wyatt of Oxon Hill, MD, Hillary M. Sweeney of Oxon Hill, MD; his former wife: Diane Wyatt-Sweeney; his brothers: John P. Sweeney (Susan), Jeff Sweeney (Louise); his sister: Brenda M. Teutsch (David), and Life-long friend: Greg Snoots. He also leaves fifteen grandchildren, Garrett, Reagan, Ashlyn, Reese, Billy, Brianna, Hannah, Allysa, Maddie, Isabella, Gabriella, Nina, Pria, Monica, Arianna, one great-grandchild Blake, and his Godson Raymond.

Pallbearers will be: Michael Sweeney, Jeff Sweeney, John Sweeney, Hillary Sweeney, Billy Wood, Robert Wyatt, David Teutsch, and Jeff Sweeney, Jr.

Family will receive friends for Robert's Life Celebration Gathering on Saturday, December 1, 2012 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622. A Funeral Service will follow at 11:30 PM at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., Charlotte Hall, MD, with Pastor Dean Wolfe. Interment will immediately follow at Chesapeake Highlands Memorial Gardens, 3270 Broomes Island road, Port Republic, MD 20676.
