![]() Cynthia Kaye Adams, 64, Senior Chief Journalist USN retired of Mechanicsville, MD, passed away November 11, 2012 after a long illness at the Charlotte Hall Veterans Home. Born October 11, 1948 in Walterboro, SC, she was the daughter of Ray Freeman and Jane Quinn Freeman.
Cindy joined the Navy in 1966 and retired in a husband and wife ceremony at NAS Patuxent River in November, 1992. She proudly served 26 years and started her carrier at Fleet Hometown News Center followed by tours at NAS Jacksonville, FL then on to Hawaii where she was assigned to COMFAIR Hawaii, Commander Third Fleet and Commander Submarine Forces Pacific. In August of 1982, she transferred to Washington, D.C. for tours at Commander Naval Personnel Command and Naval Internal Relations Activity as Command Senior Chief. She ended her Navy career at Commander Naval Air Forces Atlantic Fleet, Norfolk, VA, retiring in November, 1992. Her awards and decorations include: Good Conduct Awards (6), Navy Achievement Medal, Merit Award, National Defense Service Medal (2) and the Antarctica Service Award. She was also a member of several military fraternal organizations. Her hobbies included the Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department where she was a life member, photography and raising collie dogs. Cindy was predeceased by her parents and brother, Rheet Renard Freeman. She is survived by her husband, Neal Edward Adams and brother, Terry Wayne Freeman of Virginia. The family will receive friends at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Rd., Charlotte Hall, MD on Friday, November 16, 2012 from 5:00 - 7:00p.m. followed by a Fireman's Service at 7:00p.m. Inurnment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 37, Mechanicsville, MD of Hospice House of St. Mary's, 44724 Hospice Lane, Callaway, MD 20620.
