The couple settled in Accokeek and was blessed with two loving daughters, Suzanne Maria and Kimberly Ann, eventually moving the family to their current home in Bensville in 1979. Alan retired as a steam engineer after 37 years of service in 1995.

While retired, Alan enjoyed his family, visiting both daughters and his grandson most weekends. He appreciated his neighbors, often providing vegetables from his small garden. He was known to be a bargain shopper, spending many Saturday mornings at local yard sales.
