![]() William Arthur St. Clair, 83, of Charlotte Hall, MD, passed away at Civista Medical Center in La Plata, MD on October 23, 2012. He was born on March 24, 1929 in Newport, MD to the late William Raymond and Mary Anna (Stonestreet) St. Clair.
Mr. St. Clair was a lifelong tobacco farmer and loved hunting and fishing. He spent 14 years on Charles County Committee of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation for U.S.D.A., 42 years as director of Charles County Farm Bureau and then as honorary director. In 1966, he was awarded the Outstanding Accomplishment in Soil Conservation by Charles County Soil Conservation District. In 1977, he was honored by Royster Fertilizer Company as one of their dealers. On October 4, 2002, Charles County Historic Sites Survey Phase III picked the St. Clair Tobacco Farm for their inventory of Historic Properties. It is recorded at Southern Maryland Studies Center at College of Southern Maryland. Aside from his parents, William is predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary Doris (Hayden) St. Clair; his son, David Wayne St. Clair; his brother, Charles Raymond St. Clair; and two of his sisters, Frances Louise Smith and Margaret Edna Bagley. William is survived by his daughters, Barbara Elaine Simpson (Edward Brent) and Debra Lynn St. Clair; his sister, Mary Dorothy Stavely; his 7 grandchildren, Wendy Getgen (Rodne), Kristin Simpson (Kristin), Jamie Brown (John), Jessica McEwan (DJ), Rachel Shatzer (Martin), David St. Clair, and Kevin Wedding; and his 11 great grandchildren, Lewie, Tyler, Jax, Kaitlyn, Jarett, Jenna, John, Mia, Lyla, Addison, and Juliet. Mr. St. Clair is also survived by his extended family. His fiancée, Margaret Van Meter and her children, Greg Van Meter (Kathy) and Connie Anderson (Blair); Margaret's grandchildren, Gene Van Meter (Sarah), Gregory Van Meter, Dusty Anderson, Davey Anderson, Jennifer Wimmer (Jeff); and Margaret's great grandchildren, Zachary, Nathan, Wyatt, and Blake Wimmer. Family and friends will be received for William's Life Celebration on Friday, October 26, 2012 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622. Prayers will start at 7:00 PM. There will be a Mass on Saturday, October 27, 2012, 10:00 AM, at St. Mary's Catholic Church - Newport, 11555 St. Mary's Church Road, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622. Father Mark Irvin will officiate. Interment will follow to St. Mary's Newport Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be: Glenn St. Clair, Greg Van Meter, Blair Anderson, David St. Clair, Rodne Getgen and Woodrow Bowling. Memorial Contributions may be made to: HARC, Inc., P.O.
