Richard Robert Langer, 83, of Mechanicsville, MD died on September 16, 2012 at his home. He was born on February 21, 1929 in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania to the late George Langer and Kathryn Langer.

Richard is a retired Master Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corp. After retiring from the Marine Corp. he worked for Ferris, Baker and Watts as the Assistant Vice President. He loved working in his yard, gardening, watching old western movies, the history channel, eating out, animals and most of all spending time with his family. He also had a knack for playing the claw game, then giving the stuffed animals he won to his family and neighbors.

Richard is survived by his son, Stephen R. Langer and his wife Cynthia; his daughter, Mary Rose Calvert and her husband, Thomas; his brothers, John Langer and George Langer; his sister, Mary Christian; his grandchildren, Benjamin T. Calvert, Daniel E. Calvert, Andrew J. Calvert, David B. Langer, and Katherine E. Langer; and his great granddaughter, Scarlett M. Langer.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his wife, Anne Langer; his son, John "Bobby" Langer; his brothers, James Langer and William Langer; and his sisters, Bessie Langer, Rachel Bishop, and Jean Butts.

Family will receive friends on Saturday, September 22, 2012 from 9 AM to 11AM at the Arehart-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 211 St. Mary's Avenue, La Plata, MD. A funeral service will be held at 11AM, with interment to follow at the Sacred Heart Church Cemetery, La Plata, MD.
