![]() Robert Edward Berry, 82, of Bel Alton, MD passed away at John Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, MD on August 24, 2012 following an extended illness. He was surrounded by the love of his family. Born on May 25, 1930 in Blacksburg, Virginia to the late George Ivey Dewey Berry and Mildred Quteen Cline Berry.
He was preceded in death by brothers; Maurice Ray Berry and George Dewey Berry, Jr. He is survived by his Wife; Frieda Mayer Berry. Children; Robert E. Berry, Jr., Wife; Betty Dickinson Berry, of Mechanicsville, MD. Daughter; Lislotte Berry Haskell, Husband; Trueman Haskell, Jr. Lanham, MD. 3 Grandchildren; Elizabeth Haskell, Trueman Haskell, Jr., and Robert Emmett Berry. Great-Granddaughter; Dezerea Berry. He is also survived by his Brother; Donald L. Berry, Wife; Marlene and multiple nieces and nephews. Following his career in the U.S. Army in Telecommunications, Mr. Berry worked for the Federal Communications Commission. He administered the project for the Federal Communication Commission Radio Tower atop the World Trade Center. Following that retirement, he worked as a manager for Baldus Real Estate until his final retirement. He was a member of the VFW Post #8810, and the American Legion Post #293, Waldorf, MD. Robert's primary interests were his family and his enjoyment of mall walking and conversing with his many friends there. He also enjoyed to be outdoors and to travel. The family will receive friends on Monday, September 3, 2012 from 2-4 & 6-8 pm with VFW Prayers at 7 pm at the Arehart-Echols Funeral Home, P.A. in La Plata. A funeral service will follow on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at 9 am at the Funeral Home. Pastor Charles Long will officiate. Interment will follow at Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Cheltenham at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Comprehensive Transplant Center Gift Fund at John Hopkins Medicine.
