Mary Alice Murphy, 76, of Benedict, MD passed away on August 8, 2012. Mary Alice was born September 25, 1935 to the late James Bertram and Bessie May Springfield Higgs.

Mary Alice enjoyed her family, cooking, reading, shopping, eating hard crabs, flowers and her cats - Kittie Poo and Muffie. She enjoyed holiday gatherings at her house especially Christmas Eve when Santa arrived to bring the grandchildren gifts. She was a lifelong member of the Benedict Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and St. Francis de Sales Church.

Mary Alice was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Lloyd, Martin, Neil and Charles Higgs.

Mary Alice is survived by her loving husband of 55 years Louis A. Murphy, Sr., her children Sharon Murphy Mattia and her husband Joe, Louis A. Murphy, Jr., Mary Louise Gibson and her husband George and Lona Marie Drake and her husband John. Grandchildren Louis A. Murphy, III, Chelsea and Alyssa Murphy, Michelle Welch Quade and husband Lee Quade, Kyle Welch and girlfriend Krystie Pearson, Ryan and Todd Drake, Joe Joe, Maureen, Michael (deceased) and John Mattia. Great grandchildren, Conner and Colin Murphy, Kristin, Tristen, Kara, Angelina and Kyleigh Mattia, Tyler Sparrow and Nicholas and Braylin Quade. Mary Alice is survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends for Mary Alice's Life Celebration on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 from 2-4 and 6-8 with prayers at 7:00 at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A. 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, Maryland 20622. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:00 at St. Francis de Sales Church, 7185 Benedict Avenue , Benedict, MD 20612 on Wednesday, August 15, 2012. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens, 3321 Mattawoman-Beantown Road, Waldorf, MD 20601. Ater Interment, family and friends are invited to the Benedict Fire House, 18210 Hyatt Avenue, Benedict, MD 20612.

Pallbearers will be Louis A. Murphy, Jr., Louis A. Murphy, III, Kyle Welch, Ryan and Todd Drake, Joe Mattia, George Gibson and Johnny Drake, Jr.
