Retha Mae Sammons of Bryans Road, Maryland, died on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at the Charles County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in La Plata, MD. She was 88 years old. She was born January 18, 1924 in Capitol Heights, MD, daughter of the late Henry Albert Simmons and the late Eva Frances Simmons.

She was predeceased by her husband Daniel A. Sammons, a son Curtis Mitchell Sammons, her brother Benjamin R. Simmons and her sister Hammond Henderson.

She is survived by three sons Ed, Danny, and Mike; three daughters Dee, Pat, and Amy; 10 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Sammons was a Shipping Coordinator for the Department of the Navy for over 30 years and a tireless volunteer supporting numerous social, professional, and religious organizations including NARF, Senior Center, Means-on-Wheels, and many church activities.

Visitation on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 from 2PM to 4PM and from 6PM to 8PM at the Raymond Funeral Service, P.A. 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, MD 20646. Funeral Service will be held at the Lutheran Church of Our Saviour, 7365 Indian Head Highway (Route 210) Bryans Road, MD 20616 on Thursday, July 26, 2012 beginning at 11AM with the Reverend Chris Ogne officiating. Interment in Arlington National Cemetery will be held at a late date.
