![]() Margaret Keenan Murray, 89, of Charlotte Hall, MD, passed away at her residence on July 1, 2012. She was the daughter of Walter Keenan and Margaret Dare Keenan. She was born in Buffalo, New York, on May 25, 1923.
She is predeceased by her father, Walter Keenan and mother, Margaret Dare Keenan; brothers The Rev. John Keenan; James Keenan and wife Mary O'Malley Keenan; William Keenan; brother-in-law Lawrence O'Flahavan; sister-in-law Mary Murray D'Amico and brother-in-law Dominic D'Amico. Margaret is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, John Francis Murray, of Charlotte Hall, MD; her son, James H. Murray (Ellen) of Charlotte Hall, MD; her daughters Margaret Brooks (Anthony) of Cobbs Creek, VA; Agnes Murray (Graham Walker) of Bronx, NY; Catherine Murray Lunnie of Naugatuck, CT; Bridget Schumacher of Danbury, CT; Rose Sills (Robert) of Deerfield Beach, FL; Mary Murray (Frederick Bauer) of Utica, NY; Monica Murray (Jane Talcott) of Vashon Island, WA; her sisters, Mildred O'Flahavan of Chevy Chase, MD, and Patricia Colevas (Dr. Peter Colevas) of Washington, DC; Jean Keenan Barnett; 17 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. At Niagara University, Margaret was in the first class that accepted women, graduating magna cum laude in 1945. She then moved to New York City to work for The New York Times. Margaret had a strong Catholic faith. She was an Associate of the Sisters of the Holy Cross and a teacher at St. Mary's Academy, Alexandria, VA. She enjoyed reading, needlepoint, and gardening. Family and friends will be received for Margaret's Life Celebration on Wednesday, July 4, 2012 from 3-5 PM and 7-9 PM, at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, July 5, 2012 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary's Bryantown Catholic Church, 13715 Notre Dame Place Bryantown, MD 20617. Rev. Rory T. Conley will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Church Cemetery, Bryantown, MD. Memorial Contributions may be made to Hospice of Charles County, P.O. Box 1703, La Plata, MD 20646.
