![]() George Henry Snellings, III, 79, of Charlotte Hall, MD, died May 19, 2012 at St. Mary's Hospital, Leonardtown, MD with his family at his side. Born March 28, 1933 in Richmond, VA, he was the son of George Henry Snellings, Jr. and Anita Agnes Lel Snellings.
Mr. Snellings retired from the Central Intelligence Agency in Washington, DC. He was a veteran of the Korean War and had earned multiple medals including the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. He was a scuba diving rescue volunteer and instructor. He enjoyed horseback riding, swimming, flying gliders and was an automobile enthusiast. He was a member of the American Legion Post 238, Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #15, Knights of Columbus Council #10246 and the Waldorf Sportsman's Club. George was predeceased by his parents; brother, Eugene Lee Snellings; and children, Pat A. Snellings Sr. and Matthew B. Snellings. He is survived by his wife, Mary Femiano Snellings whom he married on September 17, 1955 in Washington, D.C.; children, George M. Snellings (Michelle) of Helen, MD, David A. Snellings Sr. (Catherine) of Waldorf, MD, Mark A. Snellings (Kathleen) of Pomfret, MD, Wanda M. Hoover (Craig) of Mechanicsville, MD and Victoria "Vicky" L. Hoover (Douglas) of Mechanicsville, MD; 15 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 24, 2012 from 6:00 - 8:00p.m. at the Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Rd., Charlotte Hall, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 25, 2012 at 10:00a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Bryantown, MD. Rev. Rory T. Conley will officiate. Internment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Pat Snellings Jr., Justin Snellings, Tim Myett, David Snellilngs Jr., Doug Hoover Jr. and Benjamin Snellings. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of St. Mary's. Arrangements provided by Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home. |
