Tawanda Denise Brooks was born on April 19, 1962 in LaPlata, MD to William Proctor and the late Mary Louise Brooks. She completed her life's journey on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at the Peninsula Medical Center in Salisbury, Maryland. She was the oldest of six children.

Tawanda was educated through the Charles County School System where she graduated from McDonough High School. She worked as a nanny in Germany. After returning from Germany she worked for Tri-County Headstart for many years. She recently relocated to Salisbury, Maryland with her fiancé, Jay Scott.

Tawanda enjoyed reading, listening to music and visiting flea markets. She liked cats and other animals. She had a huge heart and loved to care for children.

In addition to her mother, Mary, she is preceded in death by her half-brother, Ronnie Proctor.

In addition to her father, William, Tawanda is survived by her daughter, Teela Brooks, fiancé, Generia Scott; four sisters, Lovenne Brooks, Sandra Dyson (Lewis), Chyerelle Countiss (Marc) and Karen Swann; brother, George Swann, Jr. (Kimberly); half-sister, Felica Lyles; half-brother, William Proctor, step-father, George Swann, Sr., and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Her viewing will take place on Tuesday, June 5th, 9:30a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial 11:00a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, LaPlata, Maryland. Interment Church Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., Indian Head, MD.
