Thomas H. "Pat" Swann, Jr., 82, of Indian Head, MD passed away peacefully in the company of his family, on March 4, 2012 after a brief illness. Pat was born on April 23, 1929 in Washington, D.C. He was the only child of the late Thomas H. "Henry" Swann, Sr. and Dorothy Cash Cooksey.

Pat was raised on a farm in Dentsville, MD, graduated from LaPlata High School in 1947, and attended post-graduate classes at the Charlotte Hall Military Academy.

On Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1954, Pat married Ruth Matilda "Tillie" Bell at St. Aloysius Church. Their reception was held at the old St. Mary's Hotel in Leonardtown, MD. Pat and Tillie made their home in Indian Head, and had four children, Patricia Swann Knott (Jim) of Leonardtown, Tommy Swann (Petie) of Indian Head, Maggie Swann Rudis (Mike) of Dover, DE, and Eleanor Swann Myles (Skip) of Hollywood.

Tillie predeceased Pat on October 14, 1976.

In addition to his children, Pat is survived by grandchildren Rheanna Thomas (Troy), Justin Knott, Sr., Joshua Nairn, Jarrett Myles, Emily Rudis, and Samantha Myles; Great-grandchildren Drake Thomas, Justin Knott, Jr. and Dyllan Thomas.

During his youth, Pat enjoyed and excelled at baseball and soccer, and was even selected to try-out for a semi-professional baseball league. He was a well-known first baseman for the Hughesville-Bryantown Team which was part of the Charles/St. Mary's County men's league. Additionally, Pat played for the La Plata Lions and Bryans Road Baseball league. Pat was a longtime member of the Accokeek-Bryans Road Lions Club where he formed many valued friendships.

Pat retired from Western Electric in 1983, and was later employed as a bailiff at the Charles County Courthouse for Judge Christopher Henderson (ret.) and most recently Judge Helen Harrington. Pat thoroughly enjoyed his 16 years of service at the Courthouse where his co-workers were like a second family to him.

Pat was an avid Washington Redskins fan and shared that enthusiasm with his children and grandchildren as a generous season ticket holder. He was very fortunate to attend games for over 50 years at Griffith Stadium, RFK Stadium, Fed-Ex Field and even Super Bowl XXII in San Diego, CA. He enjoyed spending time with his family, particularly special occasions at local restaurants. He never missed an opportunity to attend a Southern Maryland church dinner.

Services for Pat Swann will be held at the Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home in Charlotte Hall, MD. Viewing will be Thursday, March 8th from 4-8pm. A life celebration will be held on Friday, March 9th at 11am at the same location. Interment is being planned for a later date.
