George Richard Ayers of Waldorf, MD died on Friday, February 3, 2012 at Southern MD Hospital Center in Clinton, MD. He was 84 years old.

Mr. Ayers was a Retired 1st Sgt. for 30 years with the United States Marine Corps. Following the Marine Corps, he worked as a Civil Engineer at Andrews AFB Hospital and later at Clinton Hardware Store. He was a life member of the American Legion Post in Clinton and the VFW Post in Waldorf. He had his Master's License in HVAC. He was an avid sports fan especially the Washington Redskins. He loved animals, especially his birds.

Son of the late John Dillard Ayers and the late Luella Lusk Ayers.

Predeceased by his parents; one brother, John D. Ayers; and one sister, Margie Bailey.

Survived by his wife of 56 years, Sue Lawless Ayers; one son, Kevin Wesley (Tammy) Ayers of La Plata, MD; one daughter, Michelle Lynn Ayers of Waldorf, MD; one brother, Randall (Jay) Ayers of WV; two grandchildren, Sara (David) Ayers and Cameron Ayers; one great grandchild, Alyssa Jane Ayers. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation: Friday, February 10, 2012 from 2-4 & 6-8PM at Raymond Funeral Chapel, 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, MD 20646 Funeral Service: Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 11AM at Raymond Funeral Chapel. Clergy: Rev. Wayne Kempson. Interment: Monday, February 13, 2012 at 1PM at Quantico National Cemetery in Quantico, VA. Pallbearers: United States Marine Corps Honor Guard.
