![]() Frederick John Hahne, 74, of Charlotte Hall, MD, died on December 21, 2011, at his home, surrounded by his beloved Basset hounds. Fred was born on January 19, 1937, in Brooklyn, NY, and was a lifelong Yankees fan.
Among Fred's favorite activities were golfing, bowling, country western dancing, and listening to opera recordings. Fred was a former New York City Police Officer before opening a service station in Muncy, New York. For many years he worked as an Auto Technician for R. Wood Motors and then at Zakakis Chevrolet in Ithaca, New York. Fred later became a Maryland State Auto Inspector and Technician at Ralph's Dodge in Calvert County, MD. As a young man Fred had served in the U.S. Army for three years in Germany. Fred had completed a degree at Tompkins-Cortland Community College and was a devoted learner throughout his life. Fred was the son of the late John Hahne and Josephine Maleski Hahne of Brooklyn, NY. Aside from his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Delores Fernandez and his nephew, Vince. Fred is survived by his loving wife, Frances Wilson Hahne, a son Gregory Hahne and his wife Andrea of Groton, NY; twin daughters, Leslie and Marjorie, Leslie's husband Simon; twin granddaughters Brenna and Sara Hahne; mother in law Jane Wilson; brothers and sisters in law Bob and Debbie Wilson of Chicago and Janet and George Smith of Philadelphia; Ed Fernandez of Long Island, NY. Also surviving are numerous nephews and nieces and Fred's former wife, Norma, of Groton. Fred was often in touch with his extended family and gathered with many of them on holidays. Fred's beloved companion, Major, a six-year old Basset hound, passed away this August of cancer, and Major's ashes will be interred with Fred. The family will receive friends for a Life Celebration on Tuesday, December 27, 2011, from 2:00PM to 4:00PM and from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00AM on Wednesday, December 28, 2011, at Dent Chapel/St. Anne's at Charlotte Hall Veteran's Home, 29449 Charlotte Hall Road, Charlotte Hall, MD, 20622. Interment will follow at Maryland's Veterans' Cemetery, 11301 Crain Highway, Cheltenham, MD 20623, at a later date in January 2012.
