James William Grusholt, Sr., 75, of Mechanicsville, MD, formerly of Riverdale, MD died December 10, 2011 at Washington Hospital Center. Born October 26, 1936 in Washington, D.C., he was the son of Willy D. Grusholt and Martha W. Tippett Grusholt.

Mr. Grusholt attended La Plata High School and the Charlotte Hall Military Academy. He worked as a Police Officer for the Edmonston, Bladensburg and Riverdale Police Departments, retiring after 30 years. He was also a Life Member of the Bladensburg Volunteer Fire Department. After retirement Mr. Grusholt continued to be active in St. Mary's County serving on the St. Mary's County Crime Solvers Board and working for the St. Mary's County Office of Tourism. For relaxation he liked woodworking.

Mr. Grusholt was predeceased by his parents and sister, Dagne Elizabeth Hamrick.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Grusholt; children, James William Grusholt, Jr. of Mechanicsville, MD, Joseph Richard Grusholt "Rick" (Donna) and Patricia Gibson (Bernard); siblings, Willy D. Grusholt, Jr., Charles Kenneth Grusholt (Rose), Mary Myers, Jean Streeter, Joyce Beall (Elwood), John Edward Grusholt, Louise Alley and Cathy Mattingly; 3 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends for Mr. Grusholt's Life Celebration on Saturday, December 17, 2011 from 1:00 - 3:00p.m. at the Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A, 30195 Three Notch Rd., Charlotte Hall, MD. A Memorial Service will be held on December 17, 2011 at 3:00p.m. at Brinsfield-Echols. Interment will be private.
